There will soon be a new face on the Silsbee City Council, Silsbee school board and Kountze City Council. Although the totals were still unofficial at press time and all votes may not have been counted and the elections have not canvassed, it was obvious that Tina Young-Holman ousted Adalaide Balaban on the Silsbee Council, Jim de Garavilla won his seat back on the Silsbee School board by defeating incumbent Cynthia Smith and Connie Wolcott Winger got more votes than Kountze City Council incumbent Andrea Cutwright.

Storms and flooding cause problems in Hardin County

Less than two weeks after flooding had closed highways between Silsbee and Kountze, new storms in Hardin County and to the north brought flooding again to the area last week, and this time caused damage to several properties in the area.

Ignoring flooded road barricades can be costly

There were not just one or two, but several signs up and down FM 418 and Hwy 327 the latter part of last week and early this week stating, “Road Closed Due To High Water.” Barricades accompanied each sign, making it necessary to go off the highway and onto the shoulder in order to go around them and into the area of the closed road. In some cases, but not all the time, law enforcement officers were driving up and down the closed roads to stop anyone who was determined to ignore or just go around the signs and go across the water anyway.

Silsbee finished fourth in the District 19-4A race and had to battle to the very last game to ensure themselves of the fourth place spot. Their reward was the opportunity to take on the champs from District 20-4A.
